Week of July 11, 2022 KPI Summary
  • This week, the industry experienced 14 ETF launches and 3 closures, shifting the 1-year Open-to-Close ratio to 4.18 and total US ETFs to 2,979.
  • Last week did not create large shifts in our KPIs, but here are a few data points that stand out:
    • The Geared/Swaps category has increased 6.09% in the past 4 weeks (since June 19, 2022), and they make up 26 of the 40 top performing ETFs in the same time period with Equity filling in the other 14.
      • Additionally, of those 14 Equity funds, 13 of them are in the Healthcare and Thematic sectors of our database.
      • The largest of these 40 funds is Equity fund SPDR S&P Biotech ETF (XBI) and the Geared/Swaps largest fund is Direxion Daily S&P Biotech Bull 3X ETF (LABU), which was also the top performing fund at approximately 85.5%.
    • Even though Geared/Swaps and Equity funds dominated the top performers, Managed Futures ETFs have had the best 4 weeks with a 28.9% increase. Our database lists 5 ETFs in the Managed Futures category for reference.
  • Both indexes experienced minimal change last week. Toroso ETF Industry Index was down -1.05% while the S&P Financial Select Sector Index led at -0.89%.

Why Follow the ETF Industry KPIs

The team at Toroso Investments began tracking the ETF Industry Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) in the early 2000’s and have been consistently reporting on, and analyzing these metrics ever since. The table above was the impetus for the creation of the TETF.Index, the index that tracks the ETF industry. Each week, we will share the statistics we believe to be the most useful for identifying industry trends, in addition to the performance of the TEFT.Index.
