Week of May 24, 2021 KPI Summary
This week, the industry experienced 11 ETF launches and 1 closure, shifting the 2021 YTD Open-to-Close ratio to 1.88 and total US ETFs to 2,521. The month of May showed progress in the ETF industry despite a volatile market. Total assets increased approximately 1.42%, an increase of 32 ETFs to total US ETF count, and 3 additional issuers by brand. From our 11 asset class categories, Commodities Derivative increased the most (15.60%) and Volatility had the largest drop (-15.23%). The two largest asset classes of Equity (77.70% of assets) and Fixed Income (17.56%) both grew 1.93% and 1.74% respectively. Lastly, the ETF Market share of listings stayed close to the same while the ETF ER 12-month revenue grew from approximately $10.47 to $11.64 Billion in the month of May. Though April and prior months demonstrated more growth in most of these statistics outside of ETF launches, the ETF industry pushed through May still in the green. Both indexes experienced minimal change in May, Toroso ETF Industry Index was up 2.89% while the S&P Financial Select Sector Index led at 4.79%.
