ETF Industry KPI – 05/24/2021

Week of May 17, 2021 KPI Summary

This week, the industry experienced 11 ETF launches and no closures, shifting the 2021 1-year Open-to-Close ratio to 1.73 and total US ETFs to 2,508. The major milestone of total US ETFs crossing the 2,500 mark for the first time shouldn’t be overlooked. There have been 135 ETF launches YTD, gradually picking up momentum every month. On the assets side, it was intriguing to see that asset categories like Equities and Fixed Income have stayed consistently around their current category market share (77% and 18% respectively) on a one and two-year outlook. Even with total ETFs broken into our categories, the Equity and Fixed Income market share has hovered around 61% and 17% respectively for the past 2 years, with minimal dips and surges. Therefore, with the long-term gradual increase in launches and assets we have observed, there seems to be a calculated balance in the ETF universe. Both indexes experienced minimal change this week, Toroso ETF Industry Index was down -0.15% while the S&P Financial Select Sector Index trailed at -0.86%.
