Week of March 8, 2021 KPI Summary
This week, the industry experienced 4 new ETF launches and 1 closure, shifting the 2021 YTD Open-to-Close ratio to 1.32. It was a strong week in ETF asset gains with 3.08% 1-week change, bringing total assets to just short of the next milestone, six trillion dollars. As we cross the 1-year mark since Covid-19 shut down the US and the world, here are a few noticeable 1-year ETF industry numbers that stand out. Total Assets are up 36%, with the largest growth being in Options (71.3%), and only decrease in Volatility sector (-150.4%). As for growth in indexes, Traditional and Non-traditional are up 33 and 39% respectively, while Active leads the three at 51% growth, though making up merely 3.5% of the asset pie. More surprisingly, the total number of ETFs in the Active segment has increased from 279 to 531 while Traditional and Nontraditional have both decreased in total number of funds over the past 12-months. Additionally, the number of ETF issuers has grown from 145 to 179 total brands. As for the Toroso ETF Industry Index and S&P Financial Select Sector Index, the indexes have surged 93.11% and 75.44% respectively over the past 12-months.
