Thank You Mom – Africa
Life is a fast-moving journey, but sometimes it is good to take a break from work. I took such an overdue break when my Mother hosted my family on Safari. What a treat! Mom, Thank you. Your perspective from 20 years of consecutive visits lived up to all expectations and then some!
Allocating to Africa using ETFs:
We literally just returned yesterday, but to get back into the swing of things I share a couple of pictures and; of course, try to look at the country also through an ETF looking glass. However, in truth, the comparison between the iShares South Africa ETF (EZA) and the VanEck Africa ETF (AFK) highlight how such an allocation can be a blunt investment solutions. There is only a 27% overlap which is mostly led by the elephant sized success story in Naspers LTD . Both ETFs lead with a large position in Naspers; EZA and AFK each hold 23% and 8%, respectively. Naspers is a relatively obscure holding in ETFs, but a very significant technology and communications company in the emerging markets. Nasper is held by about 70 ETFs and not widely owned. Investors looking for broader ETFs with exposure to this company can also look at the Emerging Markets Internet & Ecommerce ETF (EMQQ), Davis International (DINT) and the Davis Worldwide (DWLD) ETF with allocations of 7%, 6.69% and 5.4%, respectively.
A few pictures follow at the end of this report. Truth be told these images from my iPhone do not do justice to the experience.
Personal Images – Thank you again MOM!
What can I say – I like to share.
We stayed at Camp Jubulani https://jabulanisafari.com/. The visit began with meeting the namesake Elephant Jubulani (See Below picture). To see truly great pictures go to their website or better yet – take a trip.
In the wild we visited with a 3 day old Rhino and his resting Mom.
Fear not lions were all around us….
Our safari went for about 4 days, but the experience will be shared for a lifetime!
